Junior Chamber International Macao

History of JCI Macao, China

Macau Junior Chamber is a National Organization Member (NOM) of Junior Chamber International (JCI) since November 1988. There are two Local Organization Members (LOMs) affiliated to Macau Junior Chamber, namely Pan-Mac Junior Chamber and Hou Kong Junior Chamber. In addition, Senior Member Association of Macau Junior Chamber of Commerce is also affiliated to Macau Junior Chamber.

Prior to 1988, Jaycees of Macau were indeed affiliated to Hong Kong Junior Chamber of Commerce (HKJCC), a NOM of JCI. As a requirement by JCI, there should have a minimum o two LOMs in order to be fully accredited as a NOM of JCI. To cope with the continuous growth of Jaycees in Macau and coinciding with the birth of Hou Kong Junior Chamber (the 2nd LOM of Macau Junior Chamber), Macau Junior Chamber was successfully adopted by JCI as a NOM in 1988. As well, in order to have a name which could fully reflected the characteristics and heritage of the LOMs, the name of the 1st LOM was changed from Macau Jaycees (International) to Pan-Mac Junior Chamber subsequently in October 1988.

As a matter of fact, the history of Macau Jaycees can indeed be traced back to the birth of Macau Jaycees (International). In late 1983, some experienced Jaycees from Hong Kong were assigned with a mission to extend Jaycees movement to Macau. They approached a group of young elite and Dr. Jorge A. H. Rangel, the Secretary of Education, Culture and Tourism. Subsequently, the organizing committee for the formation of Macau chapter was set up. After months of preparation, the First General Meeting was held on 24 March 1984, when the first board of the first Jaycees chapter in Macau was elected. Macau Jaycees (International) thus became the 15th LOM of HKJCC in 1984.
